So to finish out our summer, we made a half-week trip to Bear Lake. We stayed on the Idaho side and had a blast together. We went with Shauna and Doug and their family. It was relaxing (except for our tent blowing over) and fun (except for Katie crying.... a lot). What are vacations for, right?
Here we are at Minnetonka Cave. We went there soon after we set up camp. It was a nice relaxing time because you don't have to hike to it like Timpanogos Cave. Anything that I can do in flip flops instead of actual shoes is a good time. If you are wondering why Jacob's arms are so long, neither Matt or I got Jacob or Ashley's jackets from the tent. Luckily, Shauna had spares.

All the kids anxiously awaiting climbing lots of stairs and looking at slimy stalagmites/tites. They didn't even know what they were in for. Poor kids!

I cannot believe that Abbie is almost one. She doesn't look much like a baby in this picture.

Here is what we paid for. It was actually really cool. There were nine rooms in all complete with memorized jokes from the tour guide. Jacob's favorite part was seeing a bat in the cave. Ashley liked the formations that were called the Seven Dwarfs. Katie probably liked getting out of there. She didn't like it much.
Don't they look like slimy boogers? Quite interesting! I took more pictures than just this but you get the idea.

The next day, we played at Bear Lake for half a day. Here's cutie-pie Preston.

Jacob loves to have pictures of him taken when he is covered in sand. I really don't get it but, whatever floats his boat!

As soon as we got there, Ashley noticed all the snail shells. She promptly started collecting them in this bucket and worked for about an hour on it.

After she gathered the shells, she was on to making the sand birthday cake with shell decorations with Paige. Shauna and I thought it was very creative and cute.

All the kids eventually had to be buried. Jacob was first.

The hangout spot. I really liked being able to drive our vehicle right out to where we would be relaxing. It made it a lot less work and way more enjoyable.

My handsome hubby and water-loving baby. She would have crawled into the water until we couldn't see her anymore if we would have let her. YIKES!

One of the requirements for Matt was that we get a famous Raspberry shake. We did, it was good. Will probably do it again. Most of the time was spent relaxing and laughing together.
On the last day we went to the Lava Hot Springs. They were about an hour away from where we were at Bear Lake but worth the trip. I remembered to bring the camera in with us but then locked it in the locker with the rest of our stuff. Oh well.
Wanna hear a funny? As we were passing Lagoon,
Matt: "hey guys, there's Lagoon!"
Kids: (looking)
Katie: (crying) "I don't see the goon!!"
Wanna hear another?
Matt: "Is everyone ready to go see the cave (Minnetonka)?"
Katie: (several and I mean SEVERAL times through the cave and crying) "When are we going to see the cage?"
Overall, the trip was way fun and a good ending to a great summer. I will miss the 2 older kids so much when they go to school. It makes me sad just thinking about it. I'm glad we decided to do some smaller trips with the kids this year. Here's to memories!

Your baby does look old! How did that happen? And I really love your slimy booger pictures. And just so you know, I don't see a single goon or cage on your entire blog.
That looks like a lot of fun, but for some reason it looked cold to me. Was it warm and nice in the water? I've never even been to Bear Lake! Crazy, I know. I do love caves and that looks like all the other ones, but hey - I'm all for flip flops too! I'm glad you all had a good time. :)
Abby is such a doll! Wow that year went fast!
That looks like a really fun trip. I've never been to Bear Lake, but it looks nice. Maybe we'll have to give it a try sometime. I'm glad you had a fun time (minus the crying).
